And it's not because I don't love love!
It might be a bit strange reading on a photographers website that they specifically do not shoot weddings. Most photographers find that weddings are their stable income and the fun shoots are the extra bonus. So with that said, how come I don't shoot them?
It's quite simple really. They don't bring my passion for photography alive and in turn I don't find myself liking my results when the day is done.
If there is one thing anyone who has worked at wedding knows, it's that weddings require passion!
Wedding photography (and weddings in general) are hard work. You're awake early, taking photos of the bride and groom whilst they're getting ready, shooting the location, family members, friends, bridesmaids, and all of the details of the dress/suit then as soon as they're finished, you're off the the venue or to the first look. Your day is full, FULL! And finally we're at the reception where you get your first meal of the day. And then the party begins... it's a lot!
So I don't like hard work?
Definitely not. I'll work hard till the day I can't any longer. But to do the hard work that weddings require takes passion. And I wouldn't be doing the couple justice if I took on a wedding gig I wasn't truly invested in. So, best to just not offer the services anymore, right?
I hope this explanation makes sense, and maybe I can be an example to other photographers, that we can set clear boundaries of our work. I am focused on honing my skills in the areas I choose, not letting the cash-flow decide for me. In respect to a day catered to celebrating love, I would want to love being there.
